Crossroads of Education is our campaign slogan because we believe the public education system in Indiana is at a crossroads. The economy is evolving into a knowledge-based economy and our public education system needs to lead the way. Education is the foundation upon which our socio-economic system is built.
Indiana ranks #24 nationally on education. Not bad, since we rank #37 nationally for teachers' median salaries and we are dead last for teacher salary raises over the last 15 years.
We are evolving into a knowledge-based economy and over two-thirds of all the jobs require advanced skills training or a college education. Nationally 8 out of 10 newly created jobs require a college degree; in Indiana only 1 out of 6 require a college degree.
The American Society of Civil Engineers, 2017 report card, graded our national infrastructure as a D+ and the U.S. News and World Report ranks Indiana's infrastructure as #37 in the nation.
